Bar/Bat Mitzvah

Temple Judea's Bar/Bat Mitzvah program is second to none in offering a meaningful experience to students and their families.  Students enrolled in our Religious School will be assigned a date for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah approximately two years before their 13th birthday.

About ten months prior to their B'nai Mitzvah, students begin a prayer class which they attend for 3 months to learn more about the meaning of the prayers in our Shabbat morning service.  Following that class, they will attend a two month Trope class to learn how to chant Torah and Haftarah.  The remaining 5 months will be spent with an individual tutor working on their Torah and Haftarah as well as reviewing their prayers.  They will also meet with Rabbi Delcau to study Torah and prepare a d'var Torah for their special day.

We recognize that the process of becoming Bar or Bat Mitzvah is a significant milestone for the entire family. Parents are encouraged to accompany their child to their lessons and their meetings with the rabbi so parents can be fully engaged in the process together with their children.

Our entire staff stands ready to provide encouragement, help and support to your family as you engage this momentous occasion in the life cycle of your family. Please feel free to contact our office at any time with any questions or concerns you may.
