Shabbat at Temple Judea
Each Shabbat at Temple Judea is an uplifting and joyful spiritual experience full of music, song and meaningful prayer. It offers a respite from the day-to-day along with an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. Shabbat offers the comfort of community to families who may be dealing with difficulties or those who have suffered losses. Some are seeking to discover, some to rediscover and learn, and all to experience spirituality.
From the familiar music and prayers that may have been part of our personal Shabbat experience since childhood, to the timely messages for living and thriving as Jews in the modern world, our services meet our most fundamental needs. The services inspire us to know ourselves more deeply and to be connected to our heritage and our community in a way that adds renewed meaning to our lives. They also remind us to put our faith in action for each other and for Tikkun Olam, “repairing the world.”
Shabbat Friday Night Services
Join us at 7 PM every Friday night from September through June for our reform Shabbat service. Our service style varies from week to week. For our traditional service we use the Mishkan T’filah prayer book with English and Hebrew text, with familiar congregational melodies. The alternate Friday nights may be a spiritually guided Jewish renewal service, class service, or a service with an exciting focus. Please check our calendar.
Shabbat at the Lake
One Friday night per month in June, July and August we celebrate Shabbat at Peace Valley Park in nearby New Britain Township. This special, outdoor, informal gathering and service begins at 6 PM. It is a great opportunity for people of all ages to meet new and old friends. We gather first for dinner, either a personal kosher style picnic or congregational sponsored pizza. A clergy led family service
follows. Pavilion 5, Peace Valley Park. Enter from New Galena Rd, at the East entrance, go about 1/8 mile to the first pavilion. Lawn chairs and outdoor games are encouraged.
This is an early Friday Shabbat evening half hour service, at 6 PM. A wonderful opportunity for fun, singing, and dancing with our young children and their families. It is typically on the third Friday from September through June. (Please check the calendar.) Please call or email our office to join us for a pizza dinner following the service.
Shabbat morning services coincide with B’nai mitzvahs, class services, and other ritual events. (Please check the calendar).
Every Saturday morning at Temple Judea begins at 9 AM with coffee, bagels, a shmear, and our lively one hour Torah study group. This is an opportunity to thoughtfully interact with others as they explore the Torah. This is a flexible, open,
and welcoming group. On mornings when there is no formal Shabbat service we conclude with Kaddish for those who are honoring their loved ones.
