Shabbat at Temple Judea
Shabbat Friday Night Services
Join us at 7 PM every Friday night for our Shabbat service. We vary the style of our service from week to week.
First Friday each month
– Traditional Reform Shabbat servive. We use the Mishkan T’filah prayer book with English and Hebrew text with familiar congregational melodies.
Second Friday each month
- Traditional Reform Shabbat service usually featuring one of our Religious School classes and their families. Everyone is welcome.
Third Friday each month
– “Express”Shabbat service which is shorter in time though fully complete with traditional prayers. Congregants stay for a more elaborate Oneg Shabbat, and some small groups go to dinner together at nearby restaurants after the service.
Events on weeks when we have an Express Shabbat service are often scheduled during the Oneg. One or our rabbis or a guest rabbi or lecturer leads a topical disussion. Members and guests are welcome to attend the Express Service or the Rabbi Schmooze or both.
Fourth Friday each month
– Traditional service featuring elements from Jewish Renewal practices. The service is designed to highlight some Hasidic melodies and Kaballistic spiritual references.
Shabbat at the Lake
One Friday night per month in June, July and August we celebrate Shabbat at Peace Valley Park in nearby New Britain Township. We gather first for dinner, either a personal bring-your-own picnic or congregational sponsored pizza. The service is in a pastoral service with a view of the lake. Families and kids of all ages are welcome.
We meet at Pavilion 5, Peace Valley Park. Enter from New Galena Rd, at the East entrance, go about 1/8 mile to the first pavilion. Lawn chairs or blankets to sit on and outdoor games are encouraged.
This is an early Friday Shabbat evening half hour service, at 6 PM. A wonderful opportunity for fun, singing, and dancing with our young children and their families. It is typically on the third Friday from September through June. (Please check the calendar.) Please call or email our office to join us for a pizza dinner following the service.
Shabbat morning services coincide with B’nai mitzvahs, class services, and other ritual events. (Please check the calendar).
Every Saturday morning at Temple Judea begins at 9 AM with coffee, bagels, a shmear, and our lively one hour Torah study group. This is an opportunity to thoughtfully interact with others as they explore Torah.
This is a flexible, open, and welcoming group. On mornings when there is no formal Shabbat service we conclude with Kaddish for those who are honoring their loved ones.
